MEANINGS OF THE FORMS

1. Open Mind (9 movements)
To have an open mind to new things.

2. Indomitable Spirit (11 movements)
Never give up

3. Humility (14 movements)
To be humble.

4. Courage  (15 movements)
To face your fears.

5. Yang (15 movements)
This form means movement. Where the yang movement is constant and should

flow from you like water to your destination.

6.Yin (17 movements)
In this form is stability.  Your form should be like strong wood & would bend if

needed, but will return to its natural form.

7. Toi-Gye (37 movements)
Is the pseudonym of the noted scholar, Yi Hwang, (10th A.D.), an authority on
Neo-Confucianism. The 37 movements of the pattern refer to his birthplace on
the 37-degree latitude and the diagram represents "scholar".

8. Hwa-Rang (29 movements)
Is named after the Hwa-Rang youth group, which originated in the Silla Dynasty
about 1350 years ago. This eventually became the actual driving force for the
unification of the three kingdoms of Korea. The 29 movements refer the 29th
infantry division, (where TaeKwonDo developed into maturity). The three
dynasties are Silla, Kuguryo, and Packchae.

9. Chung-Mu (30 movements)
Was the given name to the great admiral, Yi Sun-Sin, of the Yi dynasty. He was
reputed to have invented the first armored battleship (Kobukson) which was the
precursor of the present-day submarine in 1592 A.D. The reason why this
pattern ends up wth a left-hand attack is to symbolize his regrettable death having
no chance to show his unrestrained potential checked by the forced reservation of
his loyalty to the king.
